Receipts in.
Clean handoff out.

PettyLedger is a small, local Mac app for the ugly part of production bookkeeping: reading receipts, coding line items, catching mismatched totals, tracking returns, and keeping episode costs organized. You review the data before it becomes the ledger.

What it is for

A tool for the part of wrap nobody wants to do.

PettyLedger is not QuickBooks, not payroll, and not a studio accounting system. It is the layer between a pile of receipts and the clean spreadsheet or episode report somebody else actually needs.

Use AI to get a first pass, correct it while looking at the original, then export data you have deliberately reviewed.

Receipt reviewVendor, date, card, total, line items, notes, episode and account coding remain editable.
ReturnsRefunds become negative cost and subtract from episode totals automatically.
FallbackIf AI parsing fails twice, the receipt stays available and moves to manual entry.
MemoryPreviously approved coding can be reused for familiar vendors and items.
HandoffGlobal CSV/XLSX plus episode CSV/PDF/Word and a CASHét-style P-card CSV.
The workflow

Fast enough for set. Controlled enough for accounting.

01 / INGEST

Drop the receipt

Images and PDFs can be AI-parsed with your Anthropic key, or entered manually when that is faster.

02 / REVIEW

Look at the original

The source file stays beside the editor so you can correct the machine instead of trusting it blindly.

03 / HANDOFF

Export what matters

Episode totals, filtered history and production-account data leave the app in ordinary files your team can open.

Built for real production mess

One app can cover the pilot, the run, and the returns pile.

Quick Setup creates a numbered episode run. Every receipt gets an episode. Purchases add to the running total; returns subtract. You can export one episode without slicing a master spreadsheet by hand.

Local by design

Your ledger is a folder on your Mac, not an account on somebody else's service.

PettyLedger stores its SQLite database, original receipts, settings and smart memory under ~/Documents/PettyLedger_Data/. The desktop launcher binds the interface to 127.0.0.1.

When you choose AI Parse, that selected receipt is sent directly to Anthropic with the API key you supplied. PettyLedger has no PettyLedger-owned receipt cloud or sync database.

Important: “local-first” does not mean AI parsing is offline. Real AI parsing sends the chosen receipt to Anthropic. Demo mode and manual entry do not require an API key.
Price

Free means free.
Tip jar if it earns it.

No trial clock, no feature tier, no monthly invoice. PettyLedger is free to download and use. If it saves you time or a miserable wrap night, donations help keep CnF Works tools alive.

The Anthropic API is separate and billed by Anthropic to your own account when you parse real receipts. PettyLedger does not mark up that usage.
